The Cash Cycle in Germany: How Does Cash Come into Circulation?

Confidence in a currency is rooted in cash. In Germany, it is the Bundesbank’s task to make sure that there is always a sufficient quantity of euro cash in circulation and that it is of high quality. The Bundesbank ensures the supply of cash to retailers and banks, withdraws counterfeit money from circulation and replaces damaged coins and banknotes. Furthermore, together with the European Central Bank (ECB) and the other national central banks, the Bundesbank is actively involved in further developing the security features of euro banknotes.
