Various fake reports, advertisements, photos and videos in connection with the Bundesbank are circulating on the internet and social media. In addition, fraudsters are impersonating Bundesbank staff on the phone, in emails and letters and requesting, for example, that personal data be handed over or payments be made. The Bundesbank is providing important pointers on this topic to help recipients identify such fake reports and attempted fraud. 

Freedom of choice when making payments must be maintained. Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz, Finance Minister of the state of Baden-Württemberg Danyal Bayaz and Martin Dallmeier, Deputy Chairman of the Board at dm-drogerie markt were all in agreement about this. “If the world keeps its current policies unchanged, global temperatures are expected to rise by three degrees Celsius (on average). In 2024, the Bundesbank registered approximately 72,400 counterfeit euro banknotes with a nominal value of €4.5 million in German payments. The number of counterfeits was thus up by 28% on the year. 

Following the entry into force of the revised Foreign Trade and Payments Regulation (AWV) on 1 September 2013, all external reports from enterprises, banks, public authorities and individuals must, as a general rule, be submitted in electronic format to the Bundesbank directly.

The €2 coins with a commemorative design are regular coins , which are accepted as legal tender in all euro-area countries. Although these €2 coins with a commemorative design are more commonly referred to as commemorative coins, they are nonetheless officially classed as “standard” regular issue coins.

The Bundesbank is expanding its reform proposals for central government’s debt brake. With regard to the debt ratio, Germany is doing well by international standards. Our reform proposal for the debt brake preserves sound public finances whilst at the same time facilitating urgently needed investment, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said. The concept supports measures needed to strengthen infrastructure and defence whilst ensuring sustainable public finances over the long term, in line with European rules.

The JANIS dataset contains annual financial statements of German non-financial corporations which are sent to the Bundesbank for credit assessment purposes, as well as financial statements from public sources. JANIS is an extension of the USTAN dataset of corporate balance sheet statistics.

As in 2023, the monetary policy measures of the past few years shaped the Bundesbank’s annual accounts in the 2024 financial year. For the reporting year, it has recorded an accumulated loss of €19.2 billion.
