Besides promoting dialogue on the activities of international working groups which deal with the definition of regulatory own funds and the question of prudential consolidation, this expert panel mainly provides a platform for exploring industry-wide issues concerning credit institutions' own funds. By placing interaction with the financial industry on an institutionalised footing, it is hoped that solvency supervision can be improved and refined to better meet practical requirements. Issues which can only be clarified at the EU level (eg as part of the EBA's Q&A process) are coordinated by this expert panel.
