The only constant in life is change. Technical innovation, new regulatory requirements and the inroads which digitalisation is also making into the field of payment systems and securities settlement are presenting market participants with a never-ending flow of fresh challenges. Yet at the same time, these developments also offer a wealth of potential, as with the TARGET instant payment settlement (TIPS) service launched at the end of 2018.

The Bundesbank is aiming to use its Payments Symposium this year to acquaint decision-makers in the banking industry with the current topics and future developments in this field and to give them a platform for dialogue and debate among their peers and with representatives from central banks and market infrastructure operators.
