Internship in the “Macroeconomic Analysis and Projections” Division

The “Macroeconomic Analysis and Projections” Division analyses and forecasts macroeconomic developments in Germany, contributes to the macroeconomic forecasts for the euro area and investigates structural aspects of the German economy. 

Valuable work: your role with us

During your internship, you will assist in ongoing work and/or work independently under the guidance of experienced staff on a project on one of the following topics:

  • macroeconomic analysis and forecasting; 
  • structural analyses of production potential, foreign trade and climate;
  • analysis of the business sector, especially with micro data,  including productivity and digitalization;
  • labour market analyses including wage developments;
  • analysis of residential property price trends , e.g. with granular data;
  • economic growth and structural issues;
  • labour market analyses including wage developments;
  • house price developments;
  • Bundesbank macroeconometric model (PDF);
  • inflation analysis and forecasting.

The project may be incorporated into a master’s thesis and/or a research paper, if appropriate. Depending on your qualifications, longer-term academic projects are also possible.

Unique assets: your skills and qualifications

Master’s or PhD students in economics, (business) mathematics, or similar, with:

  • very good knowledge of economics and econometrics;
  • an interest in quantitative and empirical (macro- or microeconomic) methods and issues relating to macroeconomic, price and growth analysis and forecasting;
  • knowledge of Stata, R, Matlab and/or Dynare, Python or similar products (desirable);
  • very good command of written and spoken German or English;
  • Students must be enrolled at a college/university for the entire duration of the internship.
