Im Juli 2017 wies die Leistungsbilanz des Euro-Währungsgebiets einen Überschuss von 25,1 Mrd € auf. In der Kapitalbilanz war bei den Direktinvestitionen und Wertpapieranlagen zusammengenommen eine Nettoveräußerung sowohl von Forderungen (in Höhe von 112 Mrd €) als auch von Verbindlichkeiten (im Umfang von 135 Mrd €) zu verzeichnen.

Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann believes that the Governing Council of the European Central Bank should make sure that it does not miss the right time for monetary policy normalisation. Speaking in Frankfurt, he noted that monetary conditions would continue to support economic activity for a long time to come.
