Writing in an op-ed piece in the German “Handelsblatt” newspaper, Sabine Mauderer, First Deputy Governor of the Bundesbank, has underlined the importance of an autonomous Europe in times of geopolitical tensions. Germany’s current account recorded a surplus of €11.8 billion in January 2025, down €9.1 billion on the previous month’s level.
