Jens Weidmann appointed to advisory board for the promotion of financial literacy
Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann has been appointed to sit on an international board for the promotion of financial literacy among young people in Europe. The advisory board, established by the Italian organisation Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori, has set
itself the task of improving the economic and financial literacy of young Europeans.
Alongside the Bundesbank President, the body comprises Klaas Knot (President of the Dutch central bank), Luis M Linde (Governor of Banco de España), Francois Villeroy de Galhau (Governor of Banque de France) and Ignacio Visco (Governor of Banca d'Italia). Chaired by the President of Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori, Andrea Ceccherini, the board is scheduled to convene for the first time in Florence around the beginning of 2018.
Promoting financial literacy is also a key focal point of Germany’s G20 presidency this year. In this capacity, Mr Weidmann has emphasised that greater importance should be attached to the topic of financial literacy in the world’s leading industrial countries and emerging market economies.
