The Bundesbank is charged with making sure that a sufficient range of means of payment are available to support the execution of payments. It is not involved in the business of trading coins nor does it maintain reserve stocks sorted according to mint mark or year of issue for potential distribution to collectors and/or other interested parties.

However, in order to satisfy these persons’ wishes the German Federal Ministry of Finance set up a specialised sales agency for collectors in the city of Weiden.
