Further information on lodgements of coins

As of 1 January 2015, Deutsche Bundesbank branches will only accept lodgements of coins from business clients in standard containers (see below); these are to be filled with coin roll packs, which are to be packaged in compliance with the standards laid down in the guidelines for the packaging of coin rolls. Setting a coin roll standard makes it easier, regardless of the producer, to put these coin rolls in foil packs or individual rolls into circulation.

Coins and coin-like objects which are rejected during the packaging of coin rolls as counterfeits, suspected counterfeits and as not fit for circulation are to be submitted to the relevant Bundesbank branch; after an inspection has been made, the countervalue of the submitted genuine coins and the countervalue of coins, which have not been altered by a process that precludes a reimbursement, is reimbursed.

The coins are to be sorted by denomination and by category “Counterfeit/suspected counterfeit (F)”, (using the form “Mitteilung über anliegende falsch verdächtige Noten/Münzen”, form 3154 b l) or “not fit for circulation (NU)” and to be packed in envelopes, safe bags or coin bags, upon which the value, the name of the submitting party and the respective category are to be recorded. If the quantity is sufficient, safe bags or coin bags are to be used with the following standard amounts:
