Country codes and currency codes in research datasets
From 2020 on research datasets shall provide ISO-3166 two-letter code for the coding of countries. However, there are additional codes beginning with ‘X’ that are requested by the European Commission for some statistics and the breakdown of countries may vary between datasets.
For bank related data it is important to have separate data for Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man, whereas researchers of the real economy have an interest in small territories like Ceuta and Melilla that are not always covered by ISO-3166. This technical report describes the countries and their coding that are treated differently in different statistics.
