Loan of objects from the Numismatic Collection

Upon request, the Bundesbank generally supports other institutions’ exhibition projects by loaning out objects from its numismatic collection, provided that these institutions ensure compliance with the Bundesbank’s General Loan Conditions and, if applicable, the specific requirements outlined in the loan agreement.

Objects from the Bundesbank’s numismatic collection can only be loaned out if they have been classified as “loanable” by the Bundesbank’s restoration unit and are not needed for the Bundesbank’s own exhibitions.

The duration of the loan is determined as part of the loan agreement between the Bundesbank and the borrowing institution. Permanent loans are generally not envisaged.

Loan requests should be submitted at least 6 months in advance (12 months in advance for loan requests of 10 or more items) to

Deutsche Bundesbank
Numismatische Sammlung
Postfach 100602
60006 Frankfurt am MainGermany

or via email to numismatik@bundesbank.de.

 The specific loan duration shall be determined in the loan agreement. It shall generally commence with immediate effect, but no earlier than one month before the opening of the exhibition, and shall generally end with immediate effect, but no later than 10 working days after the exhibition has closed.

The loan request should contain, as a minimum, the following details on the exhibition project:

  • information on the institution;
  • duration, title and location of the exhibition;
  • exhibition concept (overview);
  • loan item;
  • contact person(s);
  • envisaged publication(s);
  • facility report.

The borrowing institution shall assume the costs associated with carrying out the loan agreement. This applies, in particular, to the costs for insurance, packaging, and transport but not to any restoration costs relating to the loan items that may arise prior to the start of the loan.
