That’s a wrap: a glimpse behind the scenes of the new CIC image film CIC Newsletter – April 2025

The whole team was relieved to hear our editor’s cry of “That's a wrap”. Weeks of hard work and planning had paid off. We had collected enough film material to create an impactful film about the diverse range of activities offered by the Bundesbank’s Centre for International Central Bank Dialogue (CIC).

The preparations were intensive and our team was well equipped. We at the CIC shared our professional expertise, the communications department their media know-how, and technical expertise was provided by an external film crew with two camera operators and an editor. Our goal: to capture an authentic view of our participants as they share experiences and impressions of their time with us in Frankfurt.

The day of the shoot was carefully planned. A vision was fleshed out into a coherent concept with a detailed storyboard. This allowed us to plan the visual implementation, find the most suitable filming locations and scenes and develop concise interview questions.

The cast of protagonists was key to success in achieving authenticity and the desired emotional impact. Fortunately, many of our guests were willing to speak in front of the camera. Some even had prior experience with filming, whether through their own activities on social media or through previous film projects at their central banks.

On the day chosen for filming, an international central banking course and a bilateral project were being held in Frankfurt along with an online course. This provided ideal conditions for capturing a variety of impressions and interactions. The international central banking course on the topic of human resources management was designed to be interactive. Depending on their area of interest, the guests were split up into various HR topics, which meant that there was intensive discussion in small groups, facilitating a close dialogue. In addition, presentations were held for all participants.

The bilateral activity was a dialogue between experts from the Bundesbank and the Central Bank of the Philippines on specific issues relating to internal audit. The film crew was also able to shoot footage of an online course in which central banks from different countries exchanged ideas on the topic of machine learning – without any need for travel. At the end of the day of shooting, the film crew accompanied our guests on a guided tour of Frankfurt.

Despite the tight schedule, filming was harmonious. The relaxed, cheerful mood on set was reflected in the interviews and film recordings. Everyone was obviously having fun on the shoot. By the end of the day, we had a wealth of footage to create a concise, three-minute film that captures the essence of our seminars and courses.
