New deputy head at the Bundesbank’s Representative Office in New York
On 1 September 2022, I took over as Deputy Head of the New York Representative Office. Prior to that, I worked in the Directorate General Financial Stability, where my work focused on risks from the German residential real estate market.
We cover an enormous range of topics at the representative office: monetary policy, real economic developments, innovations in payment transactions, and changes in regulations and supervision, etc. We try to keep abreast of all developments on the ground – and that means not only in the United States, but also in Canada and Mexico – that are of interest to the Bundesbank. Personally, I find it extremely exciting to be able to follow the discussions on these topics live and on location.
In order to do this, personal contact is essential. A major focus of our work is therefore networking and regular discussions with the FED, supervisory authorities, banks, associations and think tanks. It’s great that these exchanges here are taking place again almost exclusively in person. This makes it so much easier for us to build up a relationship of trust with our contacts and thus get a hold of information and assessments that you might not yet be able to read in the newspapers.
