Another topic discussed is the development of the global economy during the coronavirus pandemic. The question of how households in Germany view the digital euro is also addressed, with a presentation of initial survey results and interviews. The report additionally features an article on the regulation of remuneration in credit institutions.

The July 2018 edition of the Bundesbank’s Monthly Report describes the ownership structure and the main drivers of yield movements in the market for Federal securities, and discusses the rebalancing of the Chinese economy as well as its international implications. It also includes an article on trends in the financing structure of German non-financial corporations as reflected in the corporate financial statement statistics.

The March 2019 edition of the Bundesbank’s Monthly Report sheds light on Germany’s balance of payments for 2018 and it analyses the demand for cash in the shadow economy.

In a study prepared together with Professor Friedrich Schneider of the Johannes Kepler University Linz, illegal demand for cash in Germany is investigated. The study presents an overview of economic research on the use of cash in the shadow economy as well as fresh empirical analyses by the authors. They look at the influence of the shadow economy on cash lodgements at Bundesbank branches and the demand for banknotes in Germany.
