Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann has given a speech emphasising the good cooperation between the Bundesbank and Goethe University Frankfurt’s House of Finance. In his speech, held on the occasion of the House of Finance’s 10-year anniversary, Mr Weidmann said that the exchange between the two institutions had borne fruit on many levels.

Anschließend verantwortete er als Chefvolkswirt bei der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB) die Entwicklung der geldpolitischen Strategie des Euroraums. Issing habe die geldpolitische Landschaft geprägt wie kaum ein anderer in Europa, sagte Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann bei einem akademischen Kolloquium anlässlich des 85. Geburtstags von Issing.

In a speech held in Frankfurt, Raghuram Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, criticised the ultra-accommodative monetary policy across the world, claiming that it would not sustainably achieve higher growth and that it could also have tremendous consequences for financial stability. "The sooner we get out, the better," he said.

Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann believes that financial stability must not be adopted as an additional monetary policy objective on a par with price stability. This would put the credibility of central banks at risk, he explained at a Bundesbank symposium. Monetary policy was not a suitable instrument for safeguarding financial stability. Renowned economists then discussed the interaction between monetary policy and financial stability.

"Without data, policies cannot move forward," said Min Zhu of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the 3rd IMF Statistics Forum in Frankfurt. Around 150 data producers, policy makers and academics discussed the future of statistics at the high-level, two-day conference, which was hosted by the Bundesbank.
