Fast 300 Besucherinnen und Besucher nutzten am Sonntag die Gelegenheit, einen Blick hinter die Kulissen der deutschen Notenbank zu werfen. Sie konnten unter anderem das Büro von Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann besichtigen und bei Vorträgen mehr über die Aufgaben der Bundesbank erfahren.

At a two-day research conference hosted by the Bundesbank, the Halle Institute for Economic Research and the Centre for Economic Policy Research, academics discussed the opportunities and challenges that regulatory reforms and new technologies present for the future of financial intermediation.

The October 2017 Monthly Report analyses emerging market economies’ global liquidity, foreign reserves and exchange rates and contains an article on developments in the natural interest rate. In addition, the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process for smaller institutions and proportionality considerations are described, and the initial results of the new money market statistics as well as the new insurance statistics are presented.

Henceforth, the Bundesbank will be represented in India by Peter Kern. Mr Kern takes over from Alexander Sattler who previously occupied this position at Germany's Consulate General in Mumbai.

The Bundesbank has achieved a surplus of 1 billion euros in 2016. This is 2.2 billion euros less than in the previous year. Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann justified this at the annual press conference with increased risk provisions.
