Inclusion at the Bundesbank Fair opportunities, shared success
We believe that everyone has individual strengths and skillsets that are beneficial for our teams. For this reason, inclusion is not only an attitude, but also a call for action.
Measures we have taken
-
Our dedicated representative bodies at Central Office, our Regional Offices and our branches are always available to support you with any concerns and needs you may have and to offer an inclusive working environment.
-
Our inclusion agreement sets out our commitment to creating the best possible working conditions beyond the legal obligations required of us as a public-sector employer. It applies to all civil servants and salaried employees with a disability or equivalent status, including Bank trainees.

Our working conditions are geared towards maximum flexibility and support. In addition to the legal claim for part-time work and – like all employees – the option to work partly remotely, employees with disabilities can also apply to work from home via teleworking if necessary, depending on their specific job. In such cases, we provide the necessary technical equipment (e.g. hardware and software).
-
We are committed to ensuring equal opportunities for our disabled employees. All employees should be able to participate in working life in a self-determined and equal manner. They should be able to fully utilise and improve their skills and knowledge and have the same career opportunities at the Bundesbank. Among other things, we offer a wide range of specialised training courses, such as trainings for the visually impaired or the deaf.
-
We are proud to say that we have exceeded the legally required level of 6% for employees with disabilities for years; most recently, the number stood at just under 9% (2022).
-
Digital accessibility encompasses many areas that are intended to make digital applications accessible to all users. For federal authorities, the relevant legislation on inclusion is the Act on Equal Opportunities of Persons with Disabilities (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz – BGG). The Bundesbank therefore offers special training for all employees, provides software to check accessibility and works together with external support.
-
The inclusion of disabled employees is a central pillar of our corporate diversity management. In our diversity concept, we also use a holistic approach to look at the dimension of health. We wish to embrace a culture of trust that allows openness about disabilities or illnesses. The focus should be on the different skillsets and potential of all employees.

As signatories of the ESCB & SSM diversity charter, we are committed to the values of equality, diversity and inclusion set out in the Charter and are sending a clear signal on diversity. Among other things, we aim to create a working environment that is free of any (direct or indirect) discrimination and to raise awareness of the value and importance of diversity and inclusion within the workforce.
