1. Introduction: Essential Role of the Deutsche Bundesbank

The Deutsche Bundesbank, as the central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany, is an integral part of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). It contributes to fulfilling the tasks of the ESCB with the primary goal of ensuring price stability, holds and manages the currency reserves of the Federal Republic of Germany, ensures the banking processing of domestic and foreign payments, and contributes to the stability of payment and settlement systems. Additionally, the Bundesbank performs supervisory tasks and contributes to maintaining the stability of the financial system.

2. Commitment to Environmental and Climate Protection

In light of the global challenges of climate change and the increasing loss of nature and biodiversity, the Deutsche Bundesbank recognizes the necessity of contributing to environmental and climate protection within the scope of its legal mandate. This includes complying with national and international environmental laws and regulations as well as promoting sustainable practices within its own organization. The Bundesbank acknowledges the urgency of climate change and the loss of nature and biodiversity and aims to continuously improve its environmental performance and minimize its ecological footprint.

3. Compliance with Binding Obligations

The Deutsche Bundesbank complies with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energies, and improving energy efficiency. In doing so, the Bundesbank follows the principle: 'Avoid, Reduce, Compensate'. The Bundesbank regularly conducts environmental audits to ensure that all legal requirements are met.

4. Transparent and Continuous Reporting

The Bundesbank regularly reports on its environmental and climate protection measures. This includes the publication of environmental reports that document the progress in achieving the set goals in the EMAS key areas of "biodiversity", "emissions", "energy", "communication & management", "circular economy", "material", "mobility", and "water".

5. Empowerment of Employees

Through regular training and awareness-raising, we strengthen the environmental awareness of our employees and thus contribute to the careful use of scarce resources. Employees are encouraged and empowered to actively contribute to achieving the environmental goals.

6. Role Model Function of Leadership

The leaders of the Bundesbank take on a role model function and demonstrate environmentally friendly behavior. They consider the importance of environmental and climate protection in their decision-making processes and support the implementation of this environmental guideline.
