Objective

Digitalisation is no longer merely a recent trend, having grown to become the game changer of the decade. Central banks are also increasingly turning their attention to understanding developments and expanding their capabilities in this area.

This expert panel will touch upon the most important aspects of digitalisation, giving participants the chance to discuss their own experiences.

Content

1) Transformation at central banks

  • Fostering successful transformation in times of extraordinary change
  • Transformation at the Deutsche Bundesbank (“Wandel” programme): goals, roadmap and organisational setup
  • Learning experiences in the programme to date

2) Fostering innovation through international collaboration

  • The Bundesbank’s innovation networks BISIN and Innov8: how and why we collaborate
  • Setting up the BIS Innovation Hub Eurosystem Centre
  • Trending topics: insights into current innovation activities
  • Interaction: creating value for central banks through collaboration

3) Innovation management at the Bundesbank’s InnoWerk centre 

  • What the InnoWerk innovation centre does (objectives, functions and services) and how InnoWerk fits into the Bundesbank’s innovation network as a service unit
  • Presentation of exemplary innovation activities and how we use our outreach in the fintech scene and research community for the purpose of innovation
  • Collaboration with external partners and the ecosystem (start-ups)
  • Spatial concept of InnoWerk, which supports collaboration within the Bundesbank with its hybrid setting in particular

4) Strategic Foresight: Introduction to a future-oriented mindset 

  • Supplementing quantitative forecasts with long-term systemic analyses (360-degree view) to enhance strategic resilience and derive impulses for innovation
  • Exploring dynamics of change through environmental scanning and building different futures with scenarios
  • Examples of foresight use cases within the Bundesbank (e.g. the future of analysis, biodiversity risks)

5) Application of artificial intelligence in the financial sector for central banks

  • Building an AI-driven agent system with an extensible toolbox
  • Pitfalls of generative AI: Explainability, Hallucinations, Context window
  • BBk Prototype: VolkerCTA - A Collaborative Tool Assistant for Economics

Target group

This expert panel is aimed at central bank managers and experts in the areas of innovation and digitalisation, strategic offices and IT at their organisations, as well as observers of developments in fintech and anyone interested or involved in this field.

The expert panel will serve as a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge. Participants will be asked to actively contribute to the panel, e.g. by giving a presentation.
