Technical terms, unfortunately, cannot always be avoided – particularly when it comes to complex topics such as monetary policy. This is why we have compiled a glossary with a wide range of terms, arranged in alphabetical order and each with a short explanation.

Within the scope of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), ECB employees and supervisors from member states jointly supervise "significant" banks in joint supervisory teams (JSTs). Such JSTs are headed by an ECB employee, while members from national competent authorities contribute their experience with the bank in question and knowledge of the legal basis and market structures in the country in question.
