According to Executive Board Member Joachim Wuermeling, digitalisation and sustainable finance pose unprecedented challenges for supervisors. “In some areas, they have exposed the limits of our current approach to supervision. And they are forcing us to adapt.” Wuermeling said at a conference in Munich.

Bundesbankvorstand Joachim Wuermeling hat sich dafür ausgesprochen, Kryptowährungen wie Libra mit angemesser Regulierung zu begegnen. „Aus meiner Sicht wäre eine Verbotsstrategie bei Kryptowährungen zu kurz gesprungen, um global fungiblen Anwendungen und Produkten zu begegnen“, sagte Wuermeling bei einer Veranstaltung in Stuttgart. 

In Germany and Europe, established banks are increasingly viewing FinTechs as “partners” rather than competitors, Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz said during a speech in Cape Town. “This is because banks can benefit from the innovative potential of these newcomers, while FinTechs can benefit from the existing customer relations and consumers’ trust in banks.”
